In the competitive landscape of luxury automobiles, Lexus sought to elevate its customer engagement and streamline the journey from interest to acquisition. In 2016, they partnered with Five Tier to create an immersive test drive experience leveraging state-of-the-art technology.

Challenge: Lexus aimed to deepen their connection with loyal customers by offering an exclusive, memorable test drive experience. They wanted to not only excite their audience but also gather valuable data for remarketing and personalize their follow-up communications.

Solution: Five Tier developed a comprehensive program that began with a personalized invitation sent to select Lexus owners. The invitation was a gateway to a unique test drive, facilitated through an exclusive mobile application. As registrants arrived at the dealership, the app transitioned to “record your test drive” mode, prompting drivers to place the device on their dashboard. The subsequent recording captured their reactions and emotions during the drive, creating an engaging narrative.

After completing the test drive, the app blended the recorded footage with Lexus’s commercial content, generating a custom commercial for each participant. This bespoke content was then emailed to participants and shared on their social media, encouraging wider distribution through personal networks.

Results: This innovative approach resulted in test drives that were not just a routine procedure but a memorable, shareable experience. Participants became brand ambassadors, sharing their custom commercials online. Meanwhile, Lexus harnessed the power of remarketing; using data collected to target ads through Five Tier’s broadcast network, focusing on out-of-home media that aligned with the models customers showed interest in.

For the 2019 iteration, Five Tier has refined this program, enhancing scalability and reducing the need for external hardware or custom-built applications. With the integration of Live Audience Devices and traditional web/mobile web pages, along with an expanded broadcast network, the experience has become more seamless and impactful.
